Dear Leos, the general meetings are now on every Saturday 12 - 1.00 pm. Refer to your Co-curriculum timetable, we will be having our general meetings based on the dates for Persatuan Akademik & Bukan Akademik.

There will be a meeting this Saturday (14/1), attendance is compulsory and remember, co-curriculum marks are given! There is also a production right after the meeting, we will be staying back to prepare the items for our Friendship Week sales. See you there!

SAVE THE EARTH PROJECT

On the 17th of September, 17 Leo members from Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama gathered together at the main gate of SJK (C) Lick hung. They wake up early on a Saturday morning only for one purpose - SAVE THE EARTH! They were so excited to start collecting newspapers from residents around SS19 area. Each of them brought along their recycling bags/backpacks to carry the newspapers all the way. The Organizing Chairperson, Leo Loh Wan Li divided us into two groups, each with 8 to 9 members.

We started collecting at 9:30 a.m., some of the residents there are really kind and helpful, they volunteered to help us and even donate RM 50 for charity. At 12:30 p.m., we rested at Leo Lim Su Shen's house and placed our collected newspapers there. We earned RM312 in total just by collecting newspapers around SS19 for 3 hours. We would like to say a big big "THANK YOU!" to the Leos who participated in this project on behalf of the orphans. Hope you guys enjoyed, continue the Leo spirit roar-ing within you!

Serving the community - "Ride With Pride" event in Sepang F1 Circuit

On the 17th of July, Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama, Leo Club of SMK USJ 8, Leo Club of SMK USJ 4 and Leo Club of SMK La Salle PJ attended a charity event "Ride With Pride" which was held in Sepang F1 Circuit. Profits earned will be donated to the patients diagonised with breast cancer.
Everyone of us had fun helping the person-in-charge, communicating with the drivers while doing our job.
Every Leos get a free jersey, cap and allowance of 50 ringgit to buy whatever we want during our breaktime! :)
There was a lot of racing cars like Porches, Lamborghini, Ferrari & Lotus on display.
We are really lucky to have this opportunity to serve the community and helped in this event as volunteers. We too, get to earn more experiment through this project, a big big thank you to Lion Mejar & Leos!

As you guys know, Hari Keluarga SMKSU falls on the 16th of July. We Leos will be having ponyride @ Taman Gemilang! How many chances do you have to actually ride on a pony? Furthermore, riding a pony in your own school! Amazingggg isn't it? :P Volunteers are needed to help out on that day/the day before. ANYONE can come and give us a helping hand ;)You just have to tell any of the BOD members, your help is kindly appreciated :)
For those who are interested in the ponyride, it will cost RM10 per ride.

Joint Charity Dance Competition

Hi guys!

The Joint Charity Dance Competition is jointly organized by Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama, Leo Club of ACG Benevolent Unity, Leo Club of SMK La Salle PJ and Leo Club of SMK USJ 4. It will be held on 26th March 2011 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The theme will be Club Can't Handle Us.

This is the venue for this project:

Galaxy Global Business Park, 4th floor, Jupiter Hall, NO: 8, Jalan 19/1, Section 19, 46300 P.J

To those who are interested to sign up for this dancing competition, there will be cash prizes ranging from RM200 to RM500!!! We'll be updating this page for more info!!! This event is open for all MALAYSIANS!!!

The prizes are:
1st Place : RM800 worth of prizzes
2nd Place : RM500 worth of prizes
3rd Place : RM300 worth of prizes

Here are the requirements to participate in this competition:
*2-10 members per group
*Each group must pay RM30 to join
*Time for participant to perform on stage is 2-5 minutes
*Age limit for participants is 21 or below

We have 2 rounds for the participants in the same day. 1st round is elimination, then the judges will pick the best 4 groups to the final round. 30% on judges while 70% on votes during the final.
Besides that, there will be a performance by Kim Sng, the female beatboxer! :DD

For anyone who's interested to watch and vote for the finalists, the ticket is RM15 per person.

First, I would like to apologize for haven't been updating the blog for 2 WHOLE MONTHS, sorry for not fulfilling my duty as the 1st Vice President and I.T. Director of the club. I shall now promise you guys that I will update more and more often before I retire. (Gosh it's going to happen soon!)

Rebook Charity Bookfair

Hey guys! We're back again! This time, the members of the Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama have attended the Rebook Charity Bookfair that was jointly organised by the six leo clubs in the region that are sponsored under the Lions Club of Subang Jaya. The six clubs who were involved in this project are Leo Club of SMK USJ 8, Leo Club of SMK Subang Jaya, Leo Club of SMK La Salle PJ, Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama, Leo Club of SMK USJ 4 and Leo Club of SM Sri KL. The Rebook Charity Bookfair was held from the 17th December 2010 to 19th December 2010, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Subang Parade, outside Celebrity Fitness.

Many Leo members from each school came and helped out for this project. Through this project, they met a lot of new friends while serving the customers together! Thanks to those who turned up and helped, you guys are awesome! Not to forget those who bought the books, you guys certainly played an important role at raising funds for the World Aids Foundation. Thumbs up to you guys! (Y)

The most interesting and fun part of this event was when every item at the bookfair was on sale for only RM 1! That was set on at the last few hours of the event on the last day to clear up more books easily. Of course, everyone was busy serving the customers! But it was worth right? :)

Cleaning up the Leo Garden and Collection of old newspapers project

Hey guys! Although its already December, but the members of Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama are still very active in attending projects! For example, 13 Leo members attended the Cleaning the Leo Garden project and Collection of old newspapers project which were held yesterday. I shall now do a brief report on yesterday's project! :)

8.00 a.m. - When most of the members arrived and gathered at the school canteen, the Organizing Chairperson Leo Tracy Lim started the project by giving out garbage bags and gloves to the members for them to pick up the rubbish and dry leaves in the Leo Garden.

8.30 a.m.- After cleaning up the Leo Garden, the members were then divided into 4 groups with three to four persons per group. They walked house to house asking for old newspapers and old books. The old books were collected for the Rebook Charity Book Fair which has been organized by the Leo Club of USJ 8. At first, they didn't get much reponses from the residents because it was probably too early yet. But after around 9.30 a.m., the Leo members began to get more and more old newspapers! Leo Bryan's mom (the `driver' of the day) also began rushing back and forth between rows of houses and school.

11.30 a.m.- The members were told to gather at the school canteen. The faculty advisor, Pn. Kalwant also brought her old newspapers to school. All the old newspapers were then placed at the parking lot near the guard house. After awhile, the old newspaper collector came with his lorry and paid RM 430 for the old newspapers. Bryan's dad also bought bottles of mineral water for the leo member and volunteers ( James, Teck Shern,Chun Kit and Yung Sern) to quench their thirst. THE END!

Well, everyone was satisfied with their hard work and the money they earn because they know that the money will be donated for charity. Not only that, they've also collected enough books for the upcoming Rebook Charity BookFair! Of course, the Organizing Comittee was impressed and delighted that the members worked hard eventhough there were obstacles such as the hot weather. Besides that, there was another newspaper collectors with their lorry who drove around the area at the same time the project was held. Overall, the project was a success. :)

COOKING COMPETITION

Game Description

Open up your very own kitchen in the room given, and cook the delicious dishes with your teammate! Each participating team need to prepare 3 identical meals which two Main(1 vegetable, 1 meat) course and one Dessert in this competition.

After a team completes their three identical meals, all team members must transport the food to the judges’ table and leave immediately. This table will be set up in a separate but adjoining area. Quickly serve judges and use unique technique to obtain your mark from judges.

Rules & Regulation

1.)    All teams are only given ONE & A HALF hour to cook. Including the time to transport food to the judges area, team will be deduct one mark per minute when exceed the time given.

2.)    Plastic plate is not allowed in this competition.

3.)    No other pre-chopped, pre-sliced, pre-prepared food will be allowed, team will be disqualify once Organizing Committee found the cheat behavior.

Judging Criteria

1.)    Delicious

2.)    Creativity

3.)    Hygienic

Appliance & Food Ingredient

All participating teams must bring all necessary supplies to prepare the food they have selected, such as small utensils, small hand tools, and cookware.

MAD CAMP NOTES

Hey guys! For those who are going for the MAD camp, here are all the important stuff that you guys have to know before packing up for the camp.

But before that, our school got the GREECE theme for the fellowship night! So please prepare a greece costume for yourself okay??

Alright here we go!

CAMP RULES FOR MAD CAMP

1. Name tags must be worn above the waist/around the neck at all times.
2. Everyone must participate and be punctual at all times.
3. A whistle blow by a counselor means to stop, look and listen.
4. Only appointed medical personnel can dispense medicine.
5. No one is to leave the campgrounds without permission.
6. Stay away from the cliffs on the creek by the Lodge. A counselor must be asked to retrieve any property beyond the fence.
7. Littering is strictly prohibited.
8. Dress appropriately.
9. No food and beverage within cabin premisses.
10. No camper may possess any form of cutting instrument, illegal drugs, flammable materials or usage of obscene language
11. Stealing, profanity of any sort, possession of weapons of any kind or the abuse of camp facilities will not be tolerated.
12. No skirts allowed during the camp. Shorts must be below or at least knee level.
13. Vandalism, damage to school property and the property of others is prohibited.
14. Torchlights/Flashlights are strictly not allowed to be shine upwards during one is out of their domitaries or in the woods.
15. Campers are not allowed to shout anyone’s name out aloud during jungle trekking or in the woods.
16. Obey the rules of all committee members at all times. Do not be rude to anyone.
17. Failure to comply with any of the camp rules stated above shall be sent home immediately without hesitation.

Report on Hop for Haunt

So yesterday, 12 Leo members from the Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama visited an orphanage which is the Compassion House. The objective is to celebrate halloween and play games with the orphans. Besides that, the commitee also decided to bring some groceries supply such as cooking oil, biscuits and rice for them.

The party began at around 9.30 a.m., after every members arrival. The organizing chairperson intorduced himslelf followed by other leo members. Then, the children began introducing themselves from the youngest to the oldest. The Leo members were surprised to see how good those kids actually behaved when all of them met together!

After that, the game master then started the first game, which is the passing parcel game. All of the Leo members and the children sat together in a circle and passed the newspaper parcel which contains a present wrapped in a few layers of newapapers.

Next, the members and the children got a long really well as they played other games!

The kids were quite obsessed with twister! :D

So after playing all of the games (which was around 12.30p.m.), the children had pizza and some drinks for lunch which were prepared by Leo Jasmine and Leo Atiqah. It was impressing how the children queued up from smallest to biggest to take their own pizza. They even set up the tables and chairs for themselves!

Since the commitee were informed that there will be another group of students coming at 2.00p.m., the leo members started leaving the place after touring the house. Other members chatted with the leader of the house, Yohan which is 17 this year while waiting for their parents to come and fetch them. After talking to Yohan, they became clear about how the children do their duty roster everyday and how they study.

Lastly, we would definitely want to go back there again because the children over there are so friendly, obedient and active at the same time. Not to forget the younger ones are also very adorable! For those who have never been to the orphanage, you should probably visit one someday because it'll be definitely worth it. :)

Car Wash Project

Hi guys!

Love is in the air project is back again! This time we're doing Car Wash Project which will be held on 7th November 2010 which is this Sunday. For those who wants to help out, please come at 8.30a.m. and gather at the school canteen. Leo Anna will brief you guys about it and divide you guys into groups.

If you have any extra sponges or old cloth, do bring it as we need more sponges for everyone. The organiser had already bought some but its limited. :) OH YES DONT FORGET TO BRING PAILS! WE NEED THEM ON SUNDAY! :P

And by the way, food will not be provided yea so please remember to have your breakfast before attending this project as we'll be using alot of our own energy to wash the cars!
Half of the money that we earned from this project will be donated to AIDS Foundation. So please come and show your support. Besides, you can also bond and have a better relationship between your fellow leos in the same group. ;) So why not come and join us for the fun and laughter? :)

Anyways, the 2nd RCC Meeting is now only open to 3 members per club. Sorry for the wrong information earlier guys. Our 2nd Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will attend it on 14th November :)

The deadline for the registration of M.A.D. camp has been extended to this Wednesday!

Hop for Haunt and M.A.D Camp!

Hey guys!

We will be having our Hop for Haunt project on the 20th November 2010 ( we know its a bit late but its better late than never!) which is organized by our Public Relations Director, Leo Ng Kee Seng!

Here are the details of the project:

Date: 20th November 2010
Time: 9.00 a.m.- 2.00 p.m.
Venue: i) Compassion House at USJ 1 ( for boys)
ii) Compassion House at USJ 1 ( for girls)

In case you're wondering what are we going to do at the orphanage, let me explain to you because we're going to do something different this year =)

For those who are going to follow us, we will be visiting the children at the orphanage to give them some presents and also to have some fun games and activities with them!

And yes, we are going to play with children from TWO orphanges! Children from these two orphanges will be combined on that day so that they can have more fun together =)

Since the venue is quite near to most of us, those who want to go there by themsleves are encouraged do so. We will announce the adress during our General Meeting so don't worry.

By the way, the District Leo Camp is back again! The District Leo Camp is a place where you meet new Leos and from all over Malaysia! For those who are interested in joining the camp, here are the details of the M.A.D. Camp:

Hey guys! It's Shu-Lyn here!

Okay so for those PMR takers, you should be celebrating with your friends right now.

You should celebrate and have some fun, but other than that if you have nothing else to do, you can go visit SPCA (Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Animals). It is actually a temporary shelter for stray dogs and cats.

You can go there to either visit them or be a volunteer to clean up their cages or feed them. Other than that you can also ask your parents to donate some money for their food and medication on the animals.

Hey Leos!

We will not have our General Meeting and B.O.D meeting until PMR's over! So please do take note alright :)

However, for those non-PMR examination takers, we are going to arrange the tables for the PMR students and clean the school compound together with the INTERACTORS from our school! This joint project is going to be held on this Friday, from 8.00 a.m. till around 12.00 p.m.. So do come and BOND with the interactors :D

The media will also be there too take pictures and videos of us collecting old newspapers around the area of SS18. Besides that, Lion Baki will also be there to visit and join us with the collection of newspapers!

So be sure to come for the project to meet them and get your pictures taken by the media! :D
Also, please remember to bring old newspapers and trolley( if you have it) to school when you come for briefing yea!

Next, here's the details of another upcoming project which is the National Day that has been organized by Leo Tham Sook Yee:

Time: After the M.A.D. project ( around 2.00 p.m. till 5.00 p.m.)

Okay, the Leo members who come for this project will be painting the Malaysian flag and a Lion logo on a cloth and it will be given to school for them to hang it in the school hall!

Joint Perak Installation 2010

On the 22nd August 2010, four Leo members from the Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama attended the Joint Perak Installation that was held in Tower Regency Hotel, Ipoh ( yes, the same hotel that the Leo Forum 2010 was held!) The food was really nice and the performances were funny too! It was definitely worth it :D

Hey guys! It's been awhile since I last updated this blog :)

Anyways, I'm going to update you guys about our upcoming project, which is M.A.D ( Making A Difference).

So this project is actually organized to celebrate this date- 2nd September 1970, when the first Leo Club in Malaysia ( Leo Club of Anderson, Ipoh) was formed.

This project is going to be held from 9.02 a.m. 28th August 2010 to 12.02 p.m. 29th August 2010, and the Leo members from our school will go around the area of SS18 to collect old newspaper, old magazines and empty tins. Leo members will be divided to 5 groups and each group will be in charged of one part of the area.

After collecting all the old newspapers and magazines and empty can drinks, we will be selling all of them away =) and of course we won't be keeping the money all to ourselves! We're gonna donate it to the orphanage! =))

So my dear Leos, do come and join us for the FUN! Remember to ask your friends to join us as well, the more the merrier ;)

That's it for now! The next update will be after tomorrow, which I'll do a report on the Joint Perak Installation, which will be held tomorrow! And yes, four Leos from our club will be going!

Rainbow your life!

Hey Leos! :D

I'm a super secretary (syok sendiri!)

Anyway, there was a project held last Saturday, that was 'Rainbow your life'. And guess what???? The japanese exchange students participated in the project! But I bet most of you already knew it since you guys already have a facebook ( facebook = no privacy ). I'm still gonna update about it though. :)

The project started on 8.00 a.m. straight and there were a total of 30 members who participated in the project, including the japanese students. As usual, all members painted the Leo garden with Leo spirit (ROAR!:D) and helped to touch up the Leo Logo which is fading away. What stands out the most are the japanese students as everyone was looking at them painting the huge rock in our Leo garden, just like in the picture below.*His painting!;D*

New projects and events

Hey Leos!

There are a few projects and events coming soon so I'm here to update you guys about it :D

Okay, the first would be the Rainbow Your Life project! It's a school service project as Leo members will be painting our own Leo Garden! The stuff that we're going to paint includes the Leo Logo on the gigantic rocks, the fake mushrooms and the signboard hanging between the pillars.

The details of the projects are as follows:

Date: 31st July 2010
Time: 8.00 a.m.-9.00 a.m.
Venue: Taman Gemilang, SMK Subang Utama

As the paint will be sponsored by the school, all you need to bring is your own brush and a pair of gloves and you're good to go :D

Lastly, be sure to wear your old T-shirt because your shirt will get dirty at the end of the day =)

P.S. For those who are also attending Membership Drive , remember to bring extra t-shirt too!
P.S.S. Please do come and support and beautify our Leo Garden! It is going to be lots of FUN!!!

Next, there will be an RCC meeting, Leadership Seminar and CLD test on 1st August 2010 ( Sunday). Members who are interested to attend the RCC Meeting and Leadership Seminar can inform either our Club President, Leo Bryan Guan from 4 Gamma or our Club Secretary, Leo Jasmine Soh from 4 Alpha.

The beginning of a new era.

1st of July, the most anticipated yet feared day has arrived.
The fiscal year of 2010/2011.

It all started off 6 months ago. I wasn't even a Leo, and I hardly know anything about LEO. But the motto "We Serve" caught me wondering, what does it actually mean? L.E.O is indeed a good place to serve the community, the unfortunates and even the disabled. But more importantly, LEO "Leadership, Experience, Opportunity", taught one to gain leadership qualities and abstract the best in you, develop it and moves towards it. Therefore, I'm fallen and addicted to the definition of this amazingly meaningful organization.

The very bit we are doing, could be the trigger for a brighter tomorrow. Project H.O.P.E for instance, I'm involved in it, and I figured out the motive of all the scenes. We will have fun, at the same time spreading the awareness to the people on the existence of the GOOD BIT in every man that seemed to diminish. We learn things, things that could be essential in further life. How you overcome obstacles and barricades, how you unite all like Nescafe 3 in 1, and how you convert entry into pinnacle.

I'll do my best to serve, so are the rest of my club. Therefore, I represent LEO Club of Subang Utama and say WE SERVE.

Another District project, 117 - the Fallen Stars Project refers to our tribute to the beloved late Leos, Leo Jason Ch'ng, Brendon Yeoh & Goh Yi Zhang who passed away in the tragic boat accident on the 17th of January 2010!

In loving memory of them being Leo members, servicing the community, District308B2 is organizing a series of 117 projects that are fundraising community projects in their names.

The project was jointly organised by Lions Club of Penang (Host) , New Century Lions Club of Penang Island, Leo Club of Penang (City) , Leo Club of Chung Ling High School & Leo Club of Convent Datuk Keramat

Date : 5th June 2010 (Saturday)

Just a short summary of HOPE event:

27th March

A total of 12 teams from all over the Region 5 (Klang Valley) participated in the Eco Fashionista (Go Green Fashion Show). Indeed it was a good turnout and we managed to spread the word about going green. The representative team members from Leo SMK Subang Utama were

1. Bryan Guan - Team Model
2. Lim Shu-Lyn
3. Anna Looi
4. Guan Shu Mei

We were announced as the 1st Runner Up of the whole competition. Bryan Guan did a good job in the modeling and the team's design really attracted the judges.

The celebrities who attended and performed at the event were Lion Baki Zainal (Celebrity Host), Soo Wincci (Miss Malaysia), Zenny Lyn (Biggest Loser Asia Home Challenge Champion and Singer) and Azizi Zakaria (Teen Ambassador of National Kidney Foundation and Singer).

28th March

Leo Idol! More than 40 contestants participated and there were performances after performances for hours! The Region 5 representative is actually a dance team! :) If you went for the Musical Charity Concert in February, you will know who they are for sure. Their dance made 1 or 2 judges cry that day because it was really touching. District Leo Web tv will post up the video soon.

On the 23rd March, all Region 5 clubs must send representatives to Taylor's University College Subang Jaya SS 15 at 2.30pm for a 'Making a Difference' talk by Lion Baki Zainal, a celebrity host.

Things will be heated up with the Eco-Fashionista on the 27th March at Subang Parade! It's a fashion show organized by Leo Darius from La Salle PJ. Instead of using cloth to design the outfit, Leos are required to use recyclable items instead. Each club MUST send at least 1 team of 3 people + 1 Model for this competition. Once your outfit is done, your model will have to walk around Subang Parade! The winning team will walk away with prizes and cash worth RM500!

Five students missing in boat mishap (Update 2)

GEORGETOWN: The body of one of the five Chung Ling High School students, who went missing after their boat capsized in strong waves off Macallum Street Ghaut here, has been found.

Rescue workers found the body at 2.45pm, believed to be that of Jason Ch'ng.

According to George Town acting OCPD Supt Gan Kong Meng, Ch’ng’s body was found under a boat not far from the shore.

Earlier, the body of their teacher Chin Aik Siang, 27, who was the school’s dragon boat team advisor, was found at about 11am.

A total of 17 students, aged between 16 and 17 years, and their teacher-cum-coach were training for a dragon boat race when the incident occurred at about 9am just as the team was doing the final lap before returning to the shore.

The boat capsized when the students were doing a sharp manoeuvre, which hit a tug boat.

It is believed that strong currents had pulled the students into the water.

Twelve other students however managed to swim to the shore.

Some of them swam about 1km while some were rescued by two passing fishing boats.

A search and rescue operation has been mounted by the police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Civil Defence Department.

The sunken boat has been recovered and towed to the shore.

Meanwhile, parents of the missing students are keeping a vigil near the scene.

Many of them were seen weeping openly and are being consoled by their relatives.

Those missing have been identified as Brandon Yeoh, Jason Ch’ng, Koh Yiz Hiang, Cheah Zi Jun, all 17, and Yong Xiang, 16.

It is learnt that some of the 17 students were not wearing life jackets.

It is learnt that the teacher Chin had only been recently appointed to the post.

He had been teaching science and mathematics for the past two years.

His body was sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Kuah Zi Xun, 17, who swam to the shore, said the strong current pulled down the students.

“Some of the who were wearing life jackets were also pulled down. I hope all my friends are safe,” he said.

Currently, more than 100 personnel from St John Ambulance, Rela, Penang Hospital, volunteer firefighters and divers from the Fire and Rescue Services department are involved in the search operations.

Penang police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob told a press conference that the incident occurred about 150m from the shore.

“We are still investigating how many of them were wearing life jackets,” he said.

Leo Garden Clean Up

Congratulations to you members and BODs who have attended the first project of 2010! Hope you enjoyed it because I thought this clean up was the best in our fiscal year (so far)!

We started off a bit late but more members came anyway so yeah :) Went around the garden picking up rubbish and we brought the cangkul to scrape off the moss at the sides of the drain and scoop out the foreign objects in it. Rather fun actually, the drain part :)

The group photo was awesome too. Michelle Wu got to be 'Buddha' for a couple of minutes xD

The Blazing Red Night {Taylors University College}

AIESEC Taylor University College would be organizing a blazing red-night-themed charity dinner " THE RED NIGHT" in support of PT Foundation Malaysia.

Amongst the highlight of the events include exciting dance performances, wushu demonstration & local popular band performances to keep you entertained the whole night long. To top it up, a dedicated dance floor would be opened up and the music cranked up for all you to let loose and sashay to the music!

Food wise, it'd be BUFFET style and will be specially catered.

Some changes for the Penang Trip. We will only be staying for TWO days. RM85 (still with accommodation, transportation and insurance) and we will be visiting a home. Limited to only 20 people ONLY from Region 5! Because we're gonna pick up a few guests on the way to Penang :)

Please also request for the Project Kit from your respective supervisors for guidelines on how to organize projects. It is very useful for first-timers.

Regarding the letters, inform the secretary Leo Kong Pui Yin (4B) if you have sent her any letters for approval. Should your project be held outside the school grounds, send the letters to Pui Yin at least 6 weeks before the date of the project.

where we discuss our club's issues/achievements with other clubs and lions, get to meet lotsa lotsa lotsa new people from other clubs.

Help Abang Shafie and Family!

Just over last weekend, I flew in Dina, Azizi & Baki Zainal to Langkawi as a part-sponsor for flights. Also with us were members of the media from karangkfra (you guys rock!!!) and Zeekaa from Fashion Online (Blogger yg glamer ya.. jgn main2).

Anywayz, it was a combined effort of the KL/ & local media + Giant-Ants Talent Hub... and of course the major driver is none other than Westin Langkawi!!!!

Shafie Mustaffa, 30+, lives with wife and 3 schooling kids aged 4, 11 & 12 in Langkawi, Kedah. He used to be a staff in Westin Langkawi @ the In-room service separtment. Early this year, Shafie constantly had fever and always felt tired and had body aches. It was then learned that he had Hepatitis B that attacked his liver with cancer @ stage 2!!! He has had half his liver and gald bladder cut off to sustain his life.

Currently, after his operations that cost a big bomb... he still has to go to Kedah Medical Centre once a month to get his medication which cost Abg Shafie about RM700+ a month. There was a night when Abg Shafie tried to lift a chair and it hurt him so much that the management has decided that he should stay home to rest and recover. Even so, Westin places high respect and care for its staff... they still pay for his medical needs.

Dina, Azizi & Baki with local/KL media + Westin staff visited Abg Shafie and his family at his half completed home in Langkawi.

On the very same night, a dinner was held @ Westin Langkawi where guests attended donated some small sum to Abg Shafie and family. Dina and Azizi sang some songs to entertain the guests with Baki hosting the event.

This entire outing in Langkawi stopped me and made me rewind to look at my life and what I have now vs. some unfortunate souls who aspire to have what others have but simply are slapped with bad luck and I have to say, it's probably just fate and life challenge that they have to face...

We have done a small part in highlighting Abg Shafie's plight to the public. His wife, who wants to work to suppor the family... is still waiting for our "highly efficient" social welfare department to get her a job or to support her... been waiting for 4 months now and still there's no news. I was told that the media has done quite a good job and they are bringing some of the department officers to visit Abg Shafie soon.

My main worries... are the welfare of the kids. Adik Ai Man, who is just 4, is so adorable and cute. He may not know what is happening here... but I know though.. It's not going to be easy for him as he gradually grows up and slowly understanding what's going on. I really hope that Ai Man could continue his studies... be a "someone"... and will be ableto contribute back to his family in years to come...

I would like to activate ALL LEOS... and also, call upon ALL Lions in Kedah & Penang....! We can either donate cash directly to Abg Shafie's account directly, or send goodies via Westin to the family.

How about this.. let's celebrate Hari Raya together. It doesn't mean that we have to be Muslim to celebrate Hari Raya. Whether we are Malays, Chinese or Indians. or any other races. THERE'S A MALAYSIAN that is desperately in need of our help and let's heed that call!!!! That's what I call ONE MALAYSIA!

My ears are open for any form of proposal! The one that I have is... let's all make a visit to Abg Shafie's house! I can't be flying everyone in... I would rather convert the costs into donations to Abg Shafie. So... let's go over and celebrate Raya with them perhaps? better not have too big a group.... Kedah & Penang Leos.. I leave this to you...
